SPORT REGATTA “GAJETA CUP”
Regulations for registration and participation in the regatta

GENERAL SECTION

Gajeta, the boat type competing in the regatta, is in principle neither designed nor constructed as a vessel for fast navigation. This boat was built as a multipurpose vessel intended for managing overseas estates, which essentially means transportation of goods to the home port. It is a heavy laborer boats, not intended for competition, with hardness and stability as its main features.
For this reason, competitors are asked to observe the rules for avoiding collisions at sea while sailing in the regatta, but also to take into account the maneuvering disadvantages of this type of boat.

SPECIAL SECTION

The regatta is held the first Sunday after the “Latinskoidro” regatta, in the afternoon. The exact time shall be communicated to the competitors by the Organizer in the Notice of competition.
The regatta is held in Murter, i.e. the Hramina bay. Taking into account the weather conditions, the exact starting point and method, as well as the sailing course, are all determined by the Regatta Committee on the day of the competition.
Depending on the weather conditions on the day of the regatta, the Regatta Committee reserves the right to delay or cancel the regatta.

ORGANIZER

The competition is organized by the Latinskoidro Association from Murter.
The Organizing Committee is composed of elected representatives of the organizer, co-organizers and sponsors.
The Regatta Committee consists of three members, appointed by the Organizing Committee.

REGISTRATION

Notice of competition is issued by the organizer no later than 20 days before the competition and it shall be communicated to the participants by publication in the media, on social networks and websites, by direct informing and in other ways.
Registration for the regatta is filled in on a special form at the helmsmen meeting.

CATEGORIES

Boats compete only in the gajeta category (5.30 – 7.00 m long), and all other participants who do not fall into that category compete out of competition.

COMPETITION RULES

The helmsmen meeting is held at the Starariva, Hramina, one hour before the start of the regatta.
Only boats with traditional lateen sails may compete. Other participants in the regatta, those without such sails, shall sail out of competition.
The length of the sail along the boom is limited. The maximum sail length shall not exceed the length of hull (length between belts) multiplied by a coefficient of 1.6. The Organizer reserves the right to a 0.5% tolerance due to measurement error.
The basic crew consists of a skipper and two other members. It is preferable and recommended for each crew to accommodate children and interested guests on their boat, because the regatta also has an educational purpose.

The regatta is held on the windward-leeward race principle, i.e. turning the windward and leeward markings (buoys) as determined by the Regatta Committee at the helmsmen meeting.
The start of the regatta is according to the principle of “running” start, i.e. it is located between the regatta boat and the mark on the left.
When turning toward the wind, it is permitted to use the oars (rowing) until the boat picks up speed. After that, the oars must be removed. Any other use of oars (except for avoiding danger or permission of the Regatta Committee) shall disqualify the boat from further competition.
In the case of extremely weak winds, it is possible to shorten the route, which shall be duly communicated to the competitors by the Regatta Committee with a prearranged signal.

BOAT INSPECTION

The boats shall be inspected by a special Technical Committee appointed by the Regatta Committee. On the recommendation of the Technical Committee, the Regatta Committee has the right to disqualify any crew whose equipment and boat do not comply with the regulations.

PROTEST TIME FRAME

Protests shall be submitted to the Regatta Committee on their boat, no later than one hour after the protester boat had passed the finish line.

PRIZES

The top three boats shall receive prizes. Besides competition prizes, there are awards for promotion of main goals of Latinskoidro – originality, youth, experience and honor.

LIABILITY

Each boat and all competitors participate in the regatta at their own risk. The Organizer disclaims all liability for any damage or injury to competitors, boats or third parties, whether at sea or on land before, during and after the regatta, or for the consequences of the regatta itself.
